Laser vision correction FAQ

If you would like to verify the truths and myths associated with laser vision correction, we invite you to our earlier post available here here. In this post, we will try to answer another portion of frequently asked questions that are not silent, despite the fact that the laser vision correction procedure is becoming increasingly popular and is better described on our blog as well.

We assume that there are no stupid questions, there are only foolish answers, and he who asks – does not wander!

Is it true that the qualification for laser vision correction surgery is cursory and I get the “green light” even though I shouldn’t?

This is completely untrue! Someone who spreads such information has never undergone qualifying tests and pre-operative examinations.

First of all, our clinic has a whole package of preliminary examinations that precede the decision to admit a patient for laser vision correction surgery. It includes qualifying examinations and a patient interview, followed by preoperative examinations – there are more than 20 on our list!

Second, depending on the patient’s problems – nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism – we format such a package of examinations so that they are relevant to the patient’s individual case and give us the full picture.

Is it true that laser vision correction will prevent me from returning to work soon? I would not like to use my accrued leave to lie in the hospital….

Let’s put some things in order.

Laser vision correction does not involve lying in a hospital! Laser procedures are performed on an outpatient basis and under local anesthesia. The laser intervention usually takes a dozen minutes or a little longer – certainly shorter than all the preparation for it, i.e. the medical history, examination and all the steps taken just before the patient is placed on the treatment table/chair (dressing up, dropping anesthetic drops, applying eye dilation).

You don’t have to use your vacation to undergo laser vision correction surgery! You need one day off. Most patients can return to work and normal daily activities as early as 24 hours after surgery, but if you’re worried that you won’t be able to focus on work during your recovery, just take a few extra days off or arrange to work from home (remotely) – yes, you’ll be able to work at the computer, just be sure to moisten your eyes very intensively and protect them with glasses to make sure no foreign objects get in.

Is it true that after laser eye surgery I will always have to use some medications and eye drops again?

“Some medication” means preparations to promote healing and prevent infection of the eye you will use as long as the doctor recommends. Since everyone’s overall health, eye condition and wound healing time is different, we can’t tell you how long you will need to use the medications prescribed by your doctor.
The eye drops you’re thinking of are probably also moisturizing drops. You use them now because your eyes are more prone to dryness after surgery. However, it’s possible that you’ll start using them permanently, because if you work at a computer or in an air-conditioned room they’ll simply bring you relief – this rule also applies to people who have never had laser vision correction done.
