What is Laser Eye Correction?

The cornea is the transparent front part of the eye – a natural lens with a power of approximately 43 diopters. It refracts light before it reaches the retina. In cases of myopia, the image forms in front of the retina; in hyperopia, behind it. Glasses and contact lenses compensate for this error externally.

The laser changes the shape of the cornea itself – it removes microscopic layers of tissue where its curvature needs to be decreased or increased. The amount of tissue removed is measured in micrometers, and the profile is calculated individually based on measurements of the entire eye, not just the values from glasses.

Therefore, a pre-procedure examination is crucial: we measure corneal thickness, its shape at thousands of points, pupil size, and the quality of the tear film. The cornea must have sufficient thickness reserve to remain stable after correction.

How much does laser eye correction cost in Warsaw?

The qualification examination costs PLN 400 and takes approximately 90 minutes. The procedure is not reimbursed by the National Health Fund (NFZ); installment payment is available through Santander Consumer Bank.

Which method to choose?

Methods are not divided into better or worse – they are divided into appropriate and inappropriate for a specific cornea. The choice depends on corneal thickness, the extent of the refractive error, the shape of the eye’s surface, and lifestyle.

Thick, regular cornea and refractive error up to -8 dpt: usually FemtoLASIK – sharp vision returns within a day.
Thinner cornea or contact sports: Trans-PRK – no cutting and no flap, at the cost of longer recovery.
If you prefer a flapless method: SmartSight – correction through a several-millimeter incision.
Cornea too thin or refractive error above -10 dpt: laser is not an option – then we consider phakic ICL lenses.
Above 45 years of age: laser alone will not resolve presbyopia – then lens replacement is the topic.

Technology we work with

Femtosecond Laser

It operates with impulses lasting billionths of a second. It does not cut with a blade – it separates tissue at the micrometer level, in a plane defined to the micron. It is responsible for preparing the flap in the FemtoLASIK method and for excising the microlens in the SmartSight method.

Schwind Amaris 1050RS Excimer Laser

It models the corneal surface with an ultraviolet light beam. The 1050 Hz frequency shortens the operating time to several tens of seconds per eye, and the seven-dimensional eye tracking system corrects every eye movement – including rotation when the patient changes position from sitting to lying down.

How the entire process looks

Qualification Examination – approximately 90 minutes

Full diagnostics: corneal topography and tomography, thickness measurement, tear film evaluation, pupil measurement, fundus examination. Based on this, we confirm the method – or advise against the procedure.

Day of Procedure – 15 to 20 minutes for both eyes

Anesthesia with drops. The laser operating time itself is several tens of seconds per eye. You return home the same day – with a companion.

Post-operative check-ups

First follow-up the next day, subsequent ones according to a set schedule. All scheduled follow-up appointments are included in the price.

When you will return to normal life

Day of procedure: rest, eyes closed. Burning and tearing for several hours are normal.
Day 1: follow-up. After FemtoLASIK and SmartSight, vision is usually already good; after Trans-PRK, it takes a few days.
Week 1: computer work. Driving after doctor’s approval.
Weeks 2–4: sports, swimming pool, and sauna after consultation.
Up to 3 months: vision finally stabilizes.

Risks – stated directly

Laser eye correction is a procedure with a very high safety profile, but it is not without risk. We speak openly about this:

Dry eye in the first few weeks – the most common side effect, usually temporary. That’s why we evaluate the tear film before the procedure.
Nighttime visual disturbances (halos, glare) – more common with large pupils and high refractive errors.
Undercorrection or overcorrection – supplementary correction is possible if needed.
Flap complications with flap methods – rare; flapless methods (SmartSight, Trans-PRK) do not carry this risk.

Therefore, qualification is paramount: most problems arise from qualifying an eye that should not have been qualified. If the examination shows that laser is not for you – we will tell you directly and show you an alternative.

How much does laser eye correction cost in Warsaw?

Does the procedure hurt?

No. The eye is anesthetized with drops. During the procedure, you will feel pressure, not pain. After surface methods, such as Trans-PRK, burning and tearing occur for the first two to three days – this is a normal phase of epithelial healing.

How quickly will I return to work?

After FemtoLASIK and SmartSight, usually the next day. After Trans-PRK, realistically after three to five days, as the epithelium needs to regenerate.

Are both eyes operated on the same day?

Yes, this is standard – with the exception of the SmartSight method, which for medical reasons we do not perform on the same day as the pre-operative examination.

Can the refractive error return?

The corrected refractive error does not return. However, the eye continues to age: after 45 years of age, presbyopia appears, regardless of a previous procedure. Therefore, for patients in this age group, we immediately discuss other solutions.

How does SmartSight differ from FemtoLASIK?

FemtoLASIK requires lifting a thin corneal flap. SmartSight is a flapless method – the surgeon removes the microlens through a several-millimeter incision. The cornea remains more stable, which is important for contact sports.

Tak minął dzień kwalifikacji do zabiegu.Sama wizyta trwał ponad dwie godziny. Dzień zabiegu: Przyjechałem około pół godziny przed wyznaczoną godziną zabiegu aby na spokojnie podpisać wszystkie dokumenty,które wcześniej dostałem do zapoznania się na maila.I znowu atmosfera super, wszystko spokojnie bez zbędnego pośpiechu.Nadszedł mój czas na zabieg.Przyszedł po mnie pan,który zaprowadził mnie w pobliże sali operacyjnej pomógł mi się ubrać w czepek,ochronę na buty i fartuch jenorazowy i przeszliśmy do śluzy.Poprosił abym usiadł sobie na fotelu i zaczekał chwilę na doktora.Po chwili przyszedł pan doktor i zaprosił mnie do środka.Tam czekał już pan doktor Viktor Derhartunian-swoją drogą dusza człowiek.Od razu rozładował atmosferę-chyba zauważył,że lekko się stresuję🫣 Sam zabieg: Położyłem się na łóżku pod laserami dostałem krople znieczulające.Na początek tworzenie płatka najpierw na jednym potem na drugim oku.ZERO bólu a do tego bardzo spokojne komendy pana doktora Victora.Od samego początku zaufałem panu doktorowi w 100% i się nie zawiodłem... Potem przeszliśmy do meritum czyli samej korekcji.I tu też oko prawe,oko lewe i po sprawie.Czas? Góra 5 minut na obydwoje oczu.Bezboleśnie,bezstresowo w super atmosferze.Sprawdzenie pierwszych efektów zaraz po zabiegu i tu...pozytywny szok.Widzę bez okularów tekst który przed korekcją był rozmytym zamglonym obrazem.Na koniec pan doktor nagrał filmik oczywiście za moją zgodą i to tyle.(swoją drogą szkoda,że go nie udostępnił do tej pory.Byłbym sławny😜😜😜Żart oczywiście). Pierwsza kontola: Na pierwszą kontrolę przyjechałem następnego dnia rano po dokładnie 16-stu godzinach od zabiegu i już wtedy widzenie miałem na 99%. Dziś:27.07.2026 r.właśnie wróciłem z drugiej kontroli moim zdaniem najważniejszej. Efekt-widzenie na prawe oko skorygowane do dali-150% Widzenie na lewe oko skorygowane do bliży 100%. Reasumując: Chciałem serdecznie podziękować całemu zespołowi Kliniki Swisslaser począwszy od pań na recepcji poprzez panią optometrystę panią doktor kwalifikującą mnie do zabiegu,pana doktora z pierwszej kontroli po zabiegu a w szególności panu doktorowi Victorowi Derhartunianowi. Żałuję tylko jednego,że tak późno się zdecydowałem na zabieg😉 P.S. Rozpisałem się trochę ale chciałem szczerze w miarę szczegółowo przekazać osobom,które są nie zdecydowane,że naprawdę warto...
