Precautions you need to take before and after laser vision correction surgery. Our checklist
Check out our checklist of precautions you need to take before your procedure laser vision correction and after it. We invite you to.
A complete checklist of tasks to perform BEFORE a laser vision correction procedure:
- Stop wearing contact lenses (users of soft lenses should stop wearing them about a week before the test, users of hard lenses – about a month, and users of Ortho-K lenses, which are worn at night – up to 3 months before the test).
- Apply for a qualification examination. The type of vision defect, the anatomical condition of the eyes, age and any eye diseases, as well as general health, determine whether our eyes can undergo laser surgery.
- Forgo eye makeup (mascara, eyeliner, eye shadow) and all facial makeup at least 24 hours before the procedure.
- Do not drink alcohol, coffee or energy drinks 24 hours before the procedure.
- Avoid driving on the day of surgery – the operated eye is hypersensitive to light (this sensitivity may be only temporary or persist permanently), may tear, and may burn.
A complete checklist of recommendations to implement AFTER the laser vision correction procedure:
- Do not sit behind the wheel – for laser vision correction treatment, it’s a good idea to come with a friend who will drive you home.
- Avoid contact with people suffering from infections such as colds, flu, or infectious diseases. The eye after surgery, like any other organ of our body in a similar situation, requires complete healing under the safest possible conditions.
- Follow the doctor’s instructions (e.g., regarding the dosage of eye drops).
- The day after the procedure, appear for a follow-up examination.
- Return to light activity at home, but be careful not to do anything that could lead to touching or rubbing the eyes.
- Cease sports activities for about two weeks (for water sports for a month, for contact sports for two months, and for extreme sports for three).
- Be in constant contact with your doctor and report any abnormalities to him.
- Take a bath instead of a shower to avoid eye irritation from soap and water.
- Use sunglasses.
- Avoid staring at a screen for several days (TV, smartphone, tablet, computer, e-book reader).
- Hold off on reading books for a few days.
- Use air conditioning judiciously – it can dry out the eyes.
- Use moisturizing drops with sodium hyaluronate (so-called artificial tears).
