Laser vision correction – opinions
Over the past few years, laser vision correction has become one of the more popular medical procedures. Patients no longer perceive the laser procedure as difficult, risky and too expensive.
Once reserved almost exclusively for celebrities, today it is considered as often as the purchase of fashionably expensive eyeglass frames. It’s hardly surprising: correcting a vision defect with a laser is simply a l i c v i d a t i o n o f that defect. A person wore glasses and no longer wears them, that’s what. The higher and more hindering the normal functioning of the visual defect, the more comfortable daily life after the procedure.
In the end, they started laughing at me that I would become an expert on ophthalmic lasers (Marcin K.).
Patients opting for laser vision correction are usually well-informed. They come to the appointment with a mass of questions and doubts to be resolved, but not because they are afraid of the procedure, but because they want to make sure they have made the right decision. Talking with them can be a sheer pleasure for doctors: they really know a lot and are open to arguments when it comes to choosing a specific surgical method. You’ll say that it’s no art to convince a convinced person, but it’s these ordinary convinced people who become far better ambassadors of laser refractive surgery than celebrities.
– I joined four Facebook groups relating to the topic of laser vision correction. I read, corresponded, exchanged insights. Delving deeper into the subject, I compared available equipment on the Polish market -. Marcin T. tells us. – Eventually, they started laughing at me that I would become an expert on ophthalmic lasers. And I just compared the equipment available on the Polish market, compiled all the data for myself… And once I chose a clinic, I was sure that it had the most modern, precise and safe equipment available in Poland. With this knowledge, I felt more confident.
Of course, the vast majority of patients do not start with a PhD in ophthalmic technology, but ask simple questions: does it hurt? And also: can I lose my sight? According to a significant number of patients, it doesn’t hurt, although depending on the method chosen, you may feel more or less, but short-lived discomfort during the operation – something like pressure, or more generally: the feeling that someone is doing something to our eyeball. None of the laser vision correction methods are associated with pain sensations AFTER the operation, although it cannot be excluded that people with a very low pain threshold will feel uncomfortable. In the case of the FemtoLASIK and SMILE methods (the so-called deep methods), there may be discomfort for up to 3-4 hours (tearing due to the fact that the epithelium has been incised). In the PRK/LASEK/TransPRK method, such discomfort can last up to 3-4 days.
I can’t marvel at the quality of my vision (Magda T.)
And then it gets better every day.
– My defect was so great that I couldn’t function without contact lenses and I used this facility for… more than 25 years […] Visual defect of more than -7 plus astigmatism,” says Ilona K. – And now I drive a car, swim in the sea and pool, read… I see everything!
– Never in my life (with any correction with glasses or lenses) have I seen as well as I do now! I am overjoyed that I decided to have the procedure and I can’t get over the quality of my vision! – Magda T. adds.
Another concern of patients is related to the side effects of the procedure, among which – still! – the panicky fear of some is… the possibility of going blind! As we read in British sources: Realistically, the chance of losing vision as a result of laser vision correction performed by an experienced surgeon is too small to measure – it is close to 1 in 5 million. In practice, this means that i there is only a risk, of reoperation in the future, if the eye undergoes surgery with an unstabilized defect.
Fantastic service, professional approach and great care for the patient (Jarek S.)
From the patient’s point of view, it is very important to have a good relationship with the medical staff. The empathy, professionalism and experience of doctors and nurses cannot be underestimated!
The professionalism of the clinic was evident at every turn,” continues Marcin T. – Ladies at the reception desk – very friendly, kind and friendly. They take care of the patient’s comfort while waiting. Ms. Sandra (optometrist) – extremely kind, highly competent, able to approach each patient individually. During qualification, she conducted a number of specialized examinations and then answered all the aspects of the procedure that bothered me (and there were quite a few of them). Dr. Victor Derhartunian is a perfectionist, a master at his craft. I searched for a long time for a clinic and operator before undergoing the procedure. I had to be sure that I was putting my eyes in good hands. And I found it!
Laser vision correction, contrary to popular belief, does not exclude you from work for long. Most patients can return to work and normal daily activities as early as 24 hours after the procedure, but if you are concerned that you will not be able to focus on work during recovery, just take a few days off. If it is necessary and we take up work the very next day, it is necessary to moisten the eyes very intensively and protect them with glasses so that no foreign body enters.
Statistics on laser vision correction state that about 95 percent of those operated on achieve a quality of vision safe for driving after the procedure, and the number of complications is less than 1 percent of cases.
