Trans-PRK smart surFace

The Trans-PRK method is the only non-contact laser vision correction technique. The modern capabilities of Trans-PRK have contributed to optimizing the procedure at its most crucial point. However, this applies almost exclusively to patients with myopia or astigmatism. If hyperopia is present, treatment with the Trans-PRK method can only be successfully performed if the number of diopters is relatively low.
Procedure Course
The acronym Trans-PRK stands for Trans-epithelial PhotoRefractive Keratectomy. The corneal epithelium and diopter correction are performed in the first stage of the procedure, with the surgeon utilizing a high-precision excimer laser. PRK was once the standard method for laser eye treatment, but LASIK replaced it due to less associated pain. However, the LASIK technique proved ineffective for patients whose corneas were too thin or irregular.
Patients do not need to fear this type of surgery. Of course, this is usually easier said than done — after all, it is a procedure directly on the eye. However, Trans-PRK is a non-contact method.
It is difficult to imagine a more advanced technology than the latest Trans-PRK, which has eliminated the need for classic surgery, as was the case with conventional PRK where the surgeon had to manually remove the epithelium. Since the excimer laser can perform this much more precisely, pain is virtually non-existent. Furthermore, the epithelial healing process is significantly faster. As a rule, epithelial regeneration does not take longer than three days.
After the epithelium is removed, the actual correction begins — also with the use of a laser. By reshaping the upper layer of the cornea, the vision defect is eliminated. To protect the cornea, alleviate pain, and accelerate wound healing, doctors place a special contact lens on it for the first few days. This allows for rapid corneal regeneration and also protects against external influences and stimuli.

Advantages of the TRANS-PRK SMART SURFACE method
You can resume normal activities within 5-7 days
You will return to normal functioning after just a few days. Simple household tasks will not pose a problem for you.
Perfect vision after 3-4 months
After 3-4 months, your vision will be perfect, and you will say goodbye to glasses forever.
Faster corneal epithelial healing
Thanks to the Trans-PRK Smart Surface method, the corneal epithelium heals very quickly.
Good vision after one month
After one month, your vision will significantly improve.
Rapid recovery
Faster return to good vision immediately after the procedure compared to other surface methods such as PRK, LASEK, or EBK.
The corneal surface is smoother
Trans-PRK Smart Surface makes the corneal surface smoother.
Over one million procedures performed worldwide!
The decisive factor for qualifying for Trans-PRK Smart Surface treatment is stable vision for at least twelve months prior to surgery. Healthy eyes are also an indispensable condition. Diseases such as cataracts or retinal conditions do not permit Trans-PRK treatment.
For Trans-PRK Smart Surface treatment, a value of plus 3 diopters is the maximum (if hyperopia is present) and minus 6 diopters (if myopia is present). Astigmatism can be treated with the Trans-PRK method up to a value of 3 diopters. The doctor alone decides which method is best for the patient. They know the patient and, most importantly, the eye to be treated. Therefore, the choice of method is not always solely determined by the number of diopters.
It takes several more weeks for vision to fully regenerate. In a few cases, treated patients report that the healing process is sometimes a bit painful, and some patients also experience a sensation of corneal haze/scarring (haze effect). This usually causes temporary vision impairment. Eye drops help in this case for a short period, but this haze is not permanent. It is essential that the patient always attends the follow-up appointment scheduled by the ophthalmologist after the procedure.
