Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) + Premium Implants
RLE (Refractive Lens Exchange) or CLE (Clear Lens Extraction) involves removing the patient’s natural lens and replacing it with an advanced artificial lens that corrects vision defects. This procedure is recommended for patients with severe hyperopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism, and in some cases, also with myopia. CLE (Clear Lens Extraction), as the name suggests, is a procedure for replacing a non-cataractous lens with an artificial one.
Premium implants enable vision without glasses for both far and near distances. Individual implant fitting, discussion of the procedure, and vision based on specific calculations will be discussed during the qualification examination.

Installments – how it works
We complete the application together at the clinic, Santander Consumer Bank’s decision usually arrives within several minutes, and often a declaration of income is sufficient. You choose the number of installments yourself; 0% installments are available during selected periods. You finance the second eye separately, before its procedure.

How much does refractive lens exchange cost?
Refractive lens exchange with a premium implant costs 11,000 PLN per eye – regardless of whether we choose a spherical, toric, or Customized lens. For both eyes, that’s 22,000 PLN. The qualification examination costs 400 PLN and is billed separately.
What exactly does the 11,000 PLN price include?
A premium implant of any type, the procedure under topical anesthesia on an outpatient basis, and two follow-up visits during the first month after the procedure. Subsequent follow-ups are billed according to the current price list. There are no extra charges for a toric lens or for a particular manufacturer’s model.
Why is the price quoted per eye?
We operate on the eyes at intervals – usually from several days to two weeks – so you pay for each completed procedure separately. This is the fairest billing: exactly for what has been done.
Does a toric or trifocal lens cost more?
No. At SwissLaser, every premium implant – spherical, toric, EDOF, or trifocal – is the same price of 11,000 PLN per eye. The choice of model is a medical decision, based on eye biometry and your lifestyle, not a pricing decision.
How does the RLE price differ from cataract surgery pricing?
Not at all – it’s technically the same procedure with the same implant, so both procedures cost 11,000 PLN per eye. The difference lies in the indication: with cataract we remove a cloudy lens, with RLE a clear one, in order to correct refractive error and presbyopia. The NHS only covers cataract surgery with a monofocal lens; refractive lens exchange is not covered.
How much does laser enhancement after RLE cost?
If a residual refractive error remains after the eye has fully healed, it can be refined with an excimer laser (Bioptics procedure). This costs 3,700 PLN per eye; the first follow-up after enhancement is included in the price. This need arises rarely and we only decide on it after neuroadaptation is complete, i.e., after 3–6 months.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes. We work with Santander Consumer Bank; we handle the formalities on-site at the clinic in several minutes. You can calculate the installment amount using the “Calculate installment” button next to each price list item or during the qualification visit.
Is the price in Warsaw and Krakow the same?
Yes. Both clinics have the same price list, the same surgeon – Dr. med. Victor Derhartunian – and the same lenses. Qualification, procedure, and follow-ups take place at the chosen clinic, with no travel to the other city.
How much does lens exchange for both eyes cost?
22,000 PLN – twice 11,000 PLN, because we operate on the eyes several days to several weeks apart and bill each eye separately. The total can be paid in installments through Santander Consumer Bank, and payment for the second eye is made just before its procedure.
Is refractive lens exchange covered by the NHS?
No. The NHS covers cataract surgery with a monofocal lens only once cataract has been diagnosed. Refractive lens exchange is a private procedure performed earlier, with a premium implant that also corrects presbyopia and astigmatism – therefore it is not covered.
Is the qualification examination included in the price?
No. The qualification examination with biometry, corneal tomography, and lens selection costs 400 PLN, takes approximately 90 minutes, and is billed separately – without it we do not yet know which implant is right for you.
Are there any hidden costs?
No. The 11,000 PLN per eye includes a premium implant of any type – including toric or trifocal – the procedure under topical anesthesia, and two follow-up visits in the first month. The only items outside the procedure price are the qualification examination (400 PLN), possible YAG capsulotomy for posterior capsule opacification (600 PLN per eye), and possible laser enhancement (3,700 PLN per eye) – both only if such a need arises.
