Why does our vision deteriorate again after laser correction?
If laser vision correction is performed on a stabilized defect, taking into account all the individual anatomical features of the patient’s eye, the defect should be eliminated once and for all.
If the procedure was performed on an eye with an unstabilized defect, it may need to be corrected in the future, i.e. another surgery. Why else can our vision deteriorate after laser correction?
- Eliminated short-sightedness/hyperopia/astigmatism does not exclude that after the age of 40 the first symptoms of presbyopia, that is, a decline in the eye’s accommodative ability, developing due to the natural process of aging and wear of the eyeball, may appear.
- Nor does a laser-corrected visual defect mean that we will miss cataracts – if we are predisposed to them. Prior laser surgery does not preclude another surgical intervention – in this case: replacement of the cloudy lens.
Is it true that eyes after laser vision correction are harmed by sitting close to a TV or computer screen?
The distance from the monitor has no effect on the worsening of the defect, but staring at the monitor for too long can – for some patients – lead to faster drying of the eye mucosa. If you are among the group of patients who have a problem with insufficient eye lubrication after surgery, you should take breaks more often and always carry moisturizing drops recommended by your ophthalmologist.
