How long do the effects of laser vision correction last?

Not so long ago, it was unthinkable to “adjust” the eye by hundredths of a millimeter and effectively eliminate all vision problems. In the second decade of the 21st century, every day thousands of people wake up with nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism and go to bed with… perfect vision. How is this possible? Simply put, these people undergo laser vision correction.

Anyone qualified for such a procedure can expect their refractive defect to be corrected forever. The laser intervention changes the shape of the eye and corrects refractive defects for good. The curvature of the cornea is remodeled by removing a small amount of tissue with the laser. When this tissue is gone forever, the eye is stabilized in its new shape.

So we got rid of the refractive defect – myopia, farsightedness or astigmatism. If the operation is performed on an eye with a stabilized defect, its laser correction will be permanent and it will not be necessary to repeat the operation in the future.

However, always keep in mind that the tissue is alive – this means that changes are POSSIBLE. If needed, also years later, doocorrections (laser corrections after the first surgery) or intraocular implants can be done.

Although the results of laser eye surgery are permanent, this does not mean you will never need glasses again. Laser eye surgery corrects refractive defects such as farsightedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism, but it cannot stop the natural aging process of the eye and has no effect on the onset of presbyopia, which is caused by the gradual weakening of the eye muscles that enable us to accommodate properly.

If you have not opted for laser vision correction and are just now being joined by symptoms of presbyopia, you can opt for the PresbyMAX procedure.

This maximally individualized profile of laser vision correction for presbyopia with or without co-occurring visual defects (range of – 7.0 diopters to +3 diopters and up to 4.0 cylinders) is today the least invasive method of presbyopia treatment, resulting in the fewest possible complications.
