EVO Visian ICL lenses are extremely thin and very flexible mini lenses placed behind the pupil. Implantable contact lenses are invisible from the outside and cannot be felt. They are used for refractive errors from -18.00 to +10.00 diopters, even with astigmatism up to -6.0 diopters.

They are particularly useful for severe myopia. If the vision defect worsens, implantable contact lenses can be replaced at any time. Because the natural lens is preserved, the eye’s ability to adjust to nearby objects (accommodation) still works.

The ICL lens consists of a soft, flexible collamer, a collagen-based material. It is very well tolerated and invisible. UV filters also protect the eyes from ultraviolet radiation.

ICL lenses belong to the group of
phakic lenses
, which are implantable contact lenses used in addition to the natural lens of the eye. An important differentiating factor is whether the phakic lens is in front of or behind the iris. Accordingly, a distinction is made between anterior chamber phakic lenses and posterior chamber phakic lenses.

Implantable contact lenses have been around since 2002. The procedure itself is similar to cataract surgery, in which the lens is replaced. It is the most common surgical procedure in the world.

Advantages of EVO Visian ICL lens implantation:

  • it is not necessary to remove the tissue
  • high security even with thin corneas
  • Less halo effect due to fewer induced aberrations and larger optical zone
  • little dry eye effect compared to LASIK or FemtoLASIK
  • the possibility of removal or replacement without loss of tissue (if, for example, the defect of vision changes – the nano-coating with “fibronectin” ensures that ICLs can not grow)
  • high biocompatibility of ICL (collagen) material
  • Additional eye protection from UV radiation – not possible with any laser process
  • More accurate correction of vision defects than laser procedures
  • Quicker achievement of full visual acuity than after laser surgery
  • Complications associated with ICL lenses are very rare, and you don’t have to worry about going blind. No such case is known anywhere in the world

The course of the operation

To implant an ICL lens, the upper/outer edge of the cornea is incised at approx. 2.8 mm. The coiled lens is placed in the eye through a thin cannula and placed in the correct position. The thin tunnel cut closes spontaneously under the influence of intraocular pressure.

The operation is painless and low-risk. Usually the procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. It lasts about 15 minutes. The operated eye is then protected by a bandage, which is removed the day after the operation. Full visual acuity is achieved after approx. 4 weeks.

Contraindications to implantation of EVO VISIAN ICL phakic lenses

  • Unstabilized visual defect,
  • Eye diseases (glaucoma, cataracts, corneal dystrophy, retinal degeneration
  • Central and others),
  • Diabetes and other metabolic diseases,
  • connective tissue diseases (collenoses),
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Important information

Application area:

  • -0.50 to -18.00 dpt in myopia,
  • +0.50 to +10.00 dpt in farsightedness,
  • Up to 6 dpt in astigmatism.

SwissLaser patients can enjoy the latest generation of EVO+ Visian ICL lenses. In this way, the risk of the occurrence of the so-called “”new” is reduced. halo effects. During a detailed preliminary examination, we decide which treatment method is suitable for the patient and which will bring the best result for him.

Due to the excellent imaging quality, we usually implant EVO Visian ICL in the following cases:

  • In Patients with thin corneas,
  • In cases of chronic dry eye or contact lens intolerance,
  • If the patient wants to perform a reversible correction procedure,
  • In the case of irregular cornea,
  • In patients with very high visual impairment.
