SmartSight is a state-of-the-art femtosecond laser treatment belonging to the so-called “SmartSight”. free (without flap) methods. They rely on the fact that inside the intact cornea is created a so-called “corneal”. lenticula (a thin section of the lens in the cornea). A minimally invasive incision is then made for the approach. The intraocular lens can then be removed through this small opening. It is also possible to use the so-called. Static cyclorotation compensation.

In the SmartSight procedure, the SCHWIND ATOS® femtosecond laser creates a predefined lens in the corneal interstitial tissue and makes small circumferential incisions in the upper corneal layer (without cutting through the corneal surface) for lens access. After using the laser, the surgeon, looking through the microscope built into the SCHWIND ATOS® device, can easily remove the lens through minimal incisions.

SmartSight does not require the creation of a corneal flap (flap), and there is no need for laser ablation as with excimer lasers – excimer lasers, which are responsible for correcting vision defects, belong to the group of non-thermal lasers; they provide the energy necessary to break molecular bonds, so the tissue is effectively vaporized – we get rid of it through ablation, not burning.

The SmartSight procedure can be used to treat myopia, as well as astigmatism. Refractive correction is performed entirely with SCHWIND ATOS. The patient can remain in one position during all stages of treatment. This results in rapid treatment with a high level of comfort for the patient and surgeon. SmartSight is a precise and gentle treatment method used in both private practice and clinical settings.

Advantages of the SmartSight method

  • Safety with intelligent eye-tracker and static cyclorotation compensation,
  • Precise treatment thanks to accurate centering, even with higher astigmatism,
  • Tissue savings from optimized lens geometry.

SCHWIND ATOS® has a sophisticated eye tracking system. Pupil recognition and cyclotorsion compensation ensure precise centering of the patient’s eye along the visual axis. The centering options and cyclotorsion compensation allow more effective treatment of visual defects, especially astigmatism, which is reflected in better quality of vision. A monitor placed directly in the surgeon’s field of view provides added convenience. It’s a device that was created based on the experience and knowledge of refractive surgery specialists and Schwind’s inventors. With pulse frequencies up to 4 MHz, specific pulse characteristics and positioning algorithms, this femtosecond laser provides very short surgical intervention times. In addition, lenses and flaps made with SCHWIND ATOS have a uniform surface. As a result, lens extraction is quick and uncomplicated.

SCHWIND ATOS® is a maximum flexible (flexible) device of the latest generation that is ideal for the treatment of myopia and mixed astigmatism. SCHWIND ATOS® uses the same patient interface for lens extraction in the SmartSight procedure and for precision flaps in the FemtoLASIK method, ensuring patient safety and comfort and efficient workflow for the surgeon. The curved geometry of the patient interface provides a perfect fit to the eye. SCHWIND ATOS® has improved suction and is ready to use in just two steps. The innovative design with integrated filter function eliminates the need for additional tubes and filters and ensures optimal eye contact with the laser system, which follows the shape of the cornea and significantly reduces pressure on the eye during the procedure. Active extraction of the lens takes only a little longer than the incision procedure itself.

SCHWIND ATOS® is an ultramodern compact femtosecond laser for use in refractive surgery procedures. The monitor and keyboard are mounted on a swivel arm that allows the user to adjust their position to suit their needs. SCHWIND ATOS® can be used alone or in combination with the SCHWIND AMARIS family of excimer lasers. It is currently the latest generation of micro-lens laser vision correction.
