In brief: at SwissLaser, every Premium implant costs the same — 11,000 PLN per eye — regardless of the model. The choice is therefore not a matter of budget, but of how you use your eyes — and what your eye’s anatomy allows. Below you will find a comparison of four lens types and a short tool to guide you before your consultation with a doctor.
The best lens is chosen not from a catalog, but based on eye biometry and lifestyle.
Comparison of Lens Types
The four types differ in how many distances you see sharply — and what you give up for it. There is no single best type for everyone.
| Monofocal | Monofocal Plus | EDoF | Trifocal | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Distance vision | very good | very good | very good | very good |
| Intermediate distance (computer) | poor | good | very good | good |
| Near vision (reading) | glasses necessary | glasses necessary | fine print usually requires glasses approx. +1.0 D | best — usually without glasses |
| Night vision | best | best | good — night driving is possible | weaker — not recommended for frequent night driving |
| Sensitivity to light, halo | practically none | practically none | less than with trifocal | pronounced in some patients |
| Neuroadaptation time | none | none | short | several weeks to several months |
| Toric version (astigmatism) | available | available | available | available |
| Models at SwissLaser | — | Eyhance, enVista Aspire, RayOne EMV | PureSee, LuxSmart, Vivity | Odyssey, enVista Envy, PanOptix Pro |
A detailed description of each model can be found in the premium lens compendium. We have dedicated separate pages to EDoF lenses and trifocal lenses.

Three Questions That Most Often Decide
How often do you drive after dark?
This question carries the most weight. Monofocal and toric lenses provide the highest contrast in darkness. Trifocal lenses divide light among several focal points, which can cause halos around headlights in some patients — this usually diminishes during the adaptation period, but for a professional driver, it is a decisive argument.
What is Monofocal Plus?
It is a monofocal lens with modified optics: it retains the contrast of a classic monofocal but extends sharpness to intermediate distance — dashboard, computer screen. It does not replace reading glasses. For professional drivers, it is often the best compromise between night safety and daytime convenience. At SwissLaser: Eyhance, enVista Aspire, RayOne EMV.
How much do you work in front of a screen?
Intermediate distance — 60 to 80 cm — is the Achilles’ heel of monofocal lenses. Those who spend their day at the computer benefit most from EDoF lenses.
Do you have astigmatism?
Astigmatism does not exclude any type of lens — every model is available in a toric version and falls within the same price range. However, uncorrected astigmatism can negate the effect of even the best implant, which is why we measure it before the procedure. More: astigmatism.
Not every eye is suitable for every lens
This is the most important sentence on this page. Not every patient qualifies for a trifocal or EDoF lens — this is determined by the eye’s anatomy, not preference. Therefore, before selection, we perform precise corneal topography and tomography.
Alpha angle and kappa angle
These are the distances between the visual axis and the optical axis of the eye. If they are too large, a diffractive lens will not align precisely with the line of sight — this can result in permanent visual disturbances (dysphotopsias) that neuroadaptation does not eliminate. For such patients, we consciously advise against trifocal lenses, even if they strongly wish to read without glasses.
This parameter cannot be assessed ‘by eye’ or predicted based on lifestyle. We measure it for every patient.
Micromonovision
With monofocal and Monofocal Plus lenses, a small difference between the eyes can be intentionally set: one focused for distance, the other minimally for near vision. In well-selected patients, this provides noticeably greater freedom without loss of contrast after dark. Not everyone tolerates this difference — we check this before the procedure.
What the tool cannot replace
The above questions concern lifestyle. However, the choice is also determined by parameters that you cannot measure yourself:
- eye biometry — axial length, corneal curvature and thickness
- alpha angle and kappa angle — diffractive lenses are contraindicated if values are too high
- corneal topography and tomography — surface regularity
- condition of the macula and optic nerve — multifocal lenses are not indicated for some conditions
- pupil size in darkness
- tear film — dry eye syndrome affects vision quality after surgery
- previous corneal procedures, including laser vision correction
Therefore, we confirm the choice only after a qualification examination (400 PLN, approximately 90 minutes).
How much does it cost?
11,000 PLN per eye for a Premium implant — spherical, toric, or Customized, one price for each model. Full breakdown: cataract treatment price list. Procedures are performed in Warsaw and Krakow.
Most Frequent Questions About Lens Choice
Will a premium lens truly free me from glasses?
Trifocal lenses allow most patients to read and work without glasses. However, this is not a guarantee: for very fine print or poor lighting, glasses may still be more comfortable. EDoF lenses provide freedom for distance and computer use; reading fine print usually requires glasses.
Why does every model cost the same?
Because the choice should be determined by your eye and lifestyle, not the price list. A Premium implant — spherical, toric, or Customized — costs 11,000 PLN per eye regardless of the model.
Must both eyes have the same lens?
Usually yes, and this is typically the best solution. In selected cases, intentionally different lenses are used to combine the advantages of both solutions. This is decided by the examination.
What is neuroadaptation?
It is the period during which the brain learns to use the new image. With monofocal lenses, it practically does not occur; with trifocal lenses, it lasts from several weeks to several months. Halos around lights usually diminish during this time.
Can the lens be replaced if I am not satisfied?
Replacement is technically possible, but it is another surgery. Therefore, the choice is preceded by a detailed examination and a discussion about your lifestyle — it is better to choose correctly the first time.
Can I have a multifocal lens if I have astigmatism?
Yes. Trifocal and EDoF lenses are available in toric versions that correct astigmatism in the same procedure.
Refractive lens exchange and phakic ICL lenses are procedures from the same family — we describe them in the lens surgery section.
