What interests patients most when considering the possibility of undergoing laser vision correction<\/a><\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n

Firstly, whether laser eye surgery is painful.<\/p>\n\n

Secondly, whether laser eye surgery is safe.<\/p>\n\n

Thirdly, whether laser eye surgery is truly effective.<\/p>\n\n

The answers to these three key questions are simultaneously the three most important arguments in favor of undergoing laser vision correction. <\/p>\n\n

<\/p>\n\n

It is not painful.<\/h2>\n\n

Laser eye surgery is not painful. The procedure, lasting from a few to several minutes, is performed under local anesthesia (eye drops) in an outpatient setting and takes significantly less time than the preparations for it! Psychologists and psychiatrists specializing in anxiety disorders note that for patients affected by algophobia, i.e., the fear of experiencing pain, the very process of anticipating pain can be unbearable. This means that the fear of pain can be stronger than the pain itself! If such a phobia is preventing you from undergoing laser vision correction, we have good news for you: it truly does not hurt! <\/p>\n\n

You do not need to focus on impending pain, as you will not experience it, nor postpone the decision about eye surgery. You can undergo the procedure at the last minute, shortening the time of unpleasant psychological sensations associated with waiting!<\/p>\n\n

After the surgery, you will only experience discomfort related to the type of laser intervention. In the case of FemtoLASIK and SMILE methods (so-called deep methods), discomfort may occur within 3-4 hours after the procedure. This may include tearing due to the fact that the epithelium has been incised. With the PRK\/LASEK\/TransPRK method, discomfort can last up to 3-4 days. <\/p>\n\n

Laser surgery is safe.<\/h2>\n\n

Doctors have had sufficient time to develop and refine various methods of laser vision correction. The history of ophthalmic surgery dates back to the 1950s, and the first successful procedure on a sighted eye using an excimer laser was performed by Dr. Theo Seiler in 1987. <\/p>\n\n

The rapid development of ophthalmic techniques makes laser eye surgery maximally safe. The number of complications is below 1% of cases. <\/p>\n\n

Currently, laser vision correction is considered the most advanced method available to a refractive surgeon, but even within this method, we can identify less and more advanced surgical techniques. All are safe and do not carry the risk of vision loss \u2013 which is what patients fear most. <\/p>\n\n

The only issue that may cause irritation for patients is that for some time after the procedure (up to about six months), symptoms such as excessive dry eyes or a halo effect may occur, which eventually subside. <\/p>\n\n

Laser surgery is effective.<\/h2>\n\n

In the case of any medical procedures, the term “guarantee” is not used, but rather “procedure effectiveness.” Laser vision correction surgery is effective in approximately 95% of cases. <\/p>\n\n

Importantly, it is effective not only, as is often thought, for myopic patients. The laser effectively treats hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism. Laser intervention is also performed for presbyopia (so-called age-related farsightedness), and the latest surgical technologies allow for combining surgeries for myopia\/hyperopia\/presbyopia with the simultaneous removal of other vision defects, such as astigmatism.<\/p>\n\n

Laser vision correction performed on an eye with a stabilized defect will not require re-correction (another correction if the defect worsens). <\/p>\n\n
