Since 2012, Dr. Victor Derhartunian has successfully operated his own EyeLaser clinic in Vienna (Austria), and since 2016, the Laser Surgery Center in Zurich (Switzerland). The establishment of SwissLaser marks Dr. Victor Derhartunian’s return to his Polish roots \u2013 bringing European knowledge, experience, quality, and renowned Swiss precision to our country. This ensures that every patient requiring vision correction receives comprehensive care in terms of technology, expertise, and support. Who is Dr. Victor Derhartunian?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n
\n

Patients travelling from abroad rarely ask about the method first. They ask: who is actually going to operate on me?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Victor Derhartunian was born in Krak\u00f3w<\/strong>. He read medicine at the University of Vienna<\/strong>, graduating in 2002. He then spent 2002 to 2003 as a house officer in the United Kingdom<\/strong>, and completed his ophthalmology residency by 2008 at the university eye hospitals of Erlangen and Frankfurt am Main<\/strong> in Germany. In 2009 he gained the FEBO<\/strong> in Paris \u2014 Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 2009 to 2013 he worked in Switzerland: a refractive surgery fellowship at IROC Z\u00fcrich under Prof. Theo Seiler<\/strong>, who invented corneal cross-linking. His second teacher was Prof. Thomas Kohnen<\/strong> at Frankfurt University Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He now directs four SCHWIND reference centres<\/strong> \u2014 Z\u00fcrich, Vienna, Warsaw and Krak\u00f3w \u2014 and has performed over 25,000 procedures<\/strong>. In 2025 he trained surgeons from 13 countries<\/strong>, among them the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Poland, then?<\/strong> Because he is from there. Krak\u00f3w is where he was born and went to school. The clinics in Warsaw and Krak\u00f3w are not a low-cost outpost of something else \u2014 they run the same equipment and the same protocols as Vienna and Z\u00fcrich, under the same surgeon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will speak to the surgeon in your own language.<\/strong> Dr. Derhartunian does the consultation and the surgery himself, in English, German, Polish or French<\/strong>, without an interpreter. The English comes from the year in the United Kingdom, the German from Vienna, Erlangen and Frankfurt, the French from three years at the Lyc\u00e9e International Charles de Gaulle in Dijon. The pre-operative assessment is carried out by our team, where everyone speaks English<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
