Dry Eye Syndrome (DES)<\/strong>, also known as Dry Eye Disease (DED)<\/strong>, is one of the most common problems diagnosed by ophthalmologists. This condition falls into the category of Ocular Surface Disease (OSD) and occurs in two main variants: that related to excessive tear film evaporation (Evaporative Dry Eye \u2013 EDE), accounting for approximately 80% of cases, and that caused by a deficiency of the aqueous component of the tear film (Aqueous-Deficient Dry Eye \u2013 ADDE), which accounts for the remaining 20% of cases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dry Eye Syndrome<\/strong> is a chronic disorder of the ocular surface: there are too few tears or they evaporate too quickly. In about 80% of cases, the cause is Meibomian gland dysfunction in the eyelids, which produce the fatty layer of the tear film.
